Quit Smoking Programs Online
On the following next posts, you will find exercises designed for a specific outcome: to help you become and stay smoke-free. Some parts of this program may seem a little unusual to you, but I promise that if you follow all the steps they will add up to a positive result and your success.
During the next seven days, you may continue to smoke. You do not have to cut down, although some people do. That is entirely up to you.
You will find short affirmations at the beginning of each day's reading. Repeat these affirmations over and over. Make them your mantra for the day. As you do this, you will be reinforcing the positive messages to yourself.
If you have made several previous attempts to quit, don't despair. Maybe the methods you used were just not suitable for you. Maybe the time was not right. Maybe you did not have the right motivation. But now is the right time and the methods you will be using will make stopping far easier than it has been in the past, and much easier than you may have imagined.
If you stop smoking right now, you will not spend days or weeks suffering and rolling around in pain like a heroin addict would. This must tell you that the desire to quit is within your reach, Not only that, but nicotine is more poisonous than cocaine, heroin, ice (methamphetamine) and other highly poisonous drugs.
These can kill you faster than cigarettes only because the level of toxicity in one drug hit is more concentrated than a cigarette hit. The amount of nicotine that you are slowly consuming in your cigarettes, would kill you just as quickly if you had it in one hit.
There's no doubt that smoking does kill – it just takes longer because you are taking your poison in minute amounts. Cigarettes are one of the leading causes of preventable death in Australia and the world: tobacco was responsible for approximately 90 per cent of drug-caused deaths in the 2004-05 period, and smoking caused 14 times as many deaths as alcohol in the same period.
How you will succeed with Quit Smoking Today
For the next seven days, you will learn how to control stress. You will learn how to replace the cravings and how to gain control over your habits. You will learn how to let go of any limiting beliefs you may have. As mentioned, you don't have to cut back on smoking during the next seven days unless you choose to do so, but you will need to fill in your daily smoking diary (discussed further below). During this time, you will be preparing to become smoke-free forever. When you arrive at Q-Day, a little over a week from now, you will repeat to yourself: I am now ready. Today is the day to be smoke-free. I am now a non-smoker.
Before you start, think about a way to celebrate your Q-Day. You may like to book yourself in for a massage or facial. You could plan to plant a vegetable garden or flowerbed (if you live in a unit, you could get a planter box). You may decide to take a relaxing train trip to the country, go bushwalking and breathe the fresh air, or you may decide to visit some gardens or walk through a park. You could plan to spend a day at the beach and go fishing, or you could join a meditation class.
Perhaps plan to visit non-smoking friends or relatives or clean out the garage or all your drawers or cupboards. You might like to spend a few days at a health retreat. On the other hand, you may decide to stay home and listen to the radio or watch some DVDs and do nothing, You may decide to tell everybody you are stopping or you may choose to tell nobody and just surprise them. Whatever feels right to you is best! How you spend your Q-Day is up to you. This is an important turning point in your life. You will finally be free.
It is important that you follow all the steps of the Quit Smoking Today program. If you decide to cut out any steps, you will be reducing your chance of becoming a non-smoker. All the steps are there for a reason: to help and support you in becoming smoke-free.
It is up to you to diligently and enthusiastically follow each and every task and every exercise so you can be smoke-free before you know it – easily. As you go through each exercise, decide what works best for you, which exercises you feel benefit you most. Take those exercises and own them – make them your own. If you enjoy the breathing exercises, you might decide to take up a yoga or tai chi class, or buy a book or DVD on yoga breathing.
There are a number of measures and steps you need to take to guarantee success. The first thing you need to do is make sure you are eating healthily – this is absolutely crucial. The second is to make sure you are drinking between 1 and 2 litres of water every day.
The other simple thing you will do on Day 1 is some deep-breathing exercises – nothing too fancy or complicated.
More about hydration
When you are smoking, your body dehydrates and your cells begin to dry up and shrink. You only have to look at someone who has been smoking for 30, 40 or 50 years and you will see that smoking increases ageing by dehydrating the skin over the entire body. It is essential to your goal of quitting and for better health that you start to hydrate your body over the next seven days in preparation for becoming smoke-free by drinking 1 to 2 litres of water a day.
The fact is, you lose water simply by breathing, and you can see proof of this when you breathe out on to glass – it's the water content in your breath that makes the glass fog up. You also perspire and go to the bathroom – together, this all adds up to between 2 and 2.5 litres of water a day. This lost fluid needs to be replaced so you will remain hydrated.
Be aware of the sugar content in drinks as well as in food – sugar in your blood turns to fat if it isn't burnt up by activity so always check labels for sugar content. It is advisable not to drink so-called energy drinks, which are high in sugar, caffeine or artificial sweeteners and cause an increased heart rate, mood swings, dizziness and dehydration. Instead, sip on soda water or still or sparkling mineral water, or drink green tea or herbal teas, A fresh vegetable or no-added-sugar fruit juice like those found at many juice bars is great for your health.
