Wisconsin statewide smoking laws took effect on 5th of July 2010 after Governor signed into law on 18th May 2009. The smoking law bans smoking in all enclosed workplaces in Wisconsin such as
- Bars,
- Restaurants,
- Lodging establishments,
- Private clubs,
- Within a "reasonable distance" outdoors from any such place, except in bar and restaurant outdoor patios.

However, the law exempts the following places:
- Cigar bars or retail tobacco stores already in existence,
- Private residences,
- Rooms in nursing homes in which the occupants agree to allow smoking,
- Casinos run by Native American tribes, as those casinos are in the tribes' sovereign territory.
